Safe, Shared and Webbed Cyberspace — approach to Cyber-communism

In Femke Snelting’s article “A fish can’t judge the water”, she encourages the exploration in the development of human-computer(software) interaction, which she considers to be the essential tool for human to understand our environment and to nourish a harmonious relationship with nature. However, an overwhelming wave of apocalyptic envisions have slowly deviated our faith from our long term bonding with technology.

Since the emergence of AI and machine intelligence, an analysis of technology shows that technological change is becoming exponential, contrary to the common sense of linear growth. We are going to live through probably 20000 years technological progress in 100 years beginning at 21 century. Under these circumstances, human’s daily life will be emancipated from the past technological canon. For instance, in the concept of “trans- human”,thanks to quantum chip and nano-tech, almost all everyday tech-products such as mobile, laptop, e-watch etc, can be implanted inside human flesh, which might even not be felt physically due to its miniature size. Furthermore, the concept of existent objects could also be redefined with the physical transformation of all the machines. Digital screen could exist on contact lenses with the help of XR technology and nano-tech. Music player could be embedded in ears. However, here is the question: “ can this envisioning really free human beings?”

Femke also writes “In contemporary society, technology produces culture at the same time when culture structures technology.” In this mutually influential circulation, it is possible that human can liberate body using technology, even become technology per se, realising the everlasting wish to be immortal. However, because of the transparency of web technology, human might trade their physical freedom with spiritual freedom. Such claims are related to the permeability of supervillain algorithms and malicious manipulation from the third agents. Rules-breaking technology might change the life for good, while deprives human privacy as well as the freedom in cyberspace. Human free themselves through technology but lock themselves under the production chain of such technology against the backdrop of Cyber-capitalism.
If the apocalyptic prophecy arrives, in my concern, fighting against it might be irrational in the long run. Since the stock market appears, it has always been increasing in its overall tendency. Capitalist elites claim that economy seems to be so positive that it will never stop to rise. Instead of living as a recluse, it is more beneficial to take advantages of the already existent infrastructures or to create new infrastructures using web tech. In Femke Snelting’s another article “ Code of Conduct”, worldwide FLOS (Free, Libre and OpenSources) communities have established the code of conduct to regulate communal behaviours in order to create a safe, unbiased, friendly and transparent virtual environment. It is specifically indicated that any action of discrimination against race, sexuality and disability should be excluded. Besides, harassment is by no means acceptable within the community. The code of conduct could facilitate the implementation of an ideal environment which might not be easily implemented in physical world. It allows effective actions being taken faster and wider than the general process of legislation and regulation. To establish such public space, we also need to maintain and sustain relevant measurement to enable a “symbiotic” relationships between human and technology.

When all the data are webbed like a neural network spreading in cyberspace, the flow of energy will be evenly distributed and rhythmically vibrating. The world we live in will also be influenced by the flow and distribution of data, unfolding into a best era in peace. At that time, all human can share and utilise data from others’ experience, knowledge, skill, and art. Each data contributor is also a data receiver, who dedicates him/herself into the establishment of an equal, safe cyberspace. This honourable digital labour might pave our way to realise a cyber-communist environment where the meaning energy exchange surpass that of energy possession.
